Located just below the end of the western Taurus Akdag (white Mountain),at 1,200m above sea level, Gömbe is a place where apples are grown.At 1,800m above sea level there is a crater lake called the Green lake This lake is the source of a river called uçarsu,which leads into a valley before flowing down a waterfall.Because of this,the river got the name uçarsu(flying water).the flow actually changes direction between the summer and wintermonths.the history of the legend of the river attracts local and foreign visitors.

According to legend,an elderly person walked the road one day and became very tired At the foot of the mountain,people of a village wanted water,but couldn t get any.ln the meantime,the old man met a young woman who was carrying some water.He stretched out his hand to ask for some,but she replied that she just had enough for her,and the baby on her back.Suddenly the old man disappeared and from the place that he was standing,water began to gush out of the ground.The water flowed down Akdag hill faster and faster and then became a waterfall.Thus,the river got the name from the locals,Uçarsu.

The elderly person is supposed to have lived in Elmalı and the local people trust in the legend,as told by Abdal Musa.For this reason,the one hour s walk to Uçarsu is famous and visitors can eat in the local restaurants,the fabulous Gömbe kebab

The spacious and light entrance hall welcomes you into Villa Yakamoz. The warm appearance of the tiled floors and impressive marble staircase contrasts beautifully with the whitened walls. The ground floor accommodation comprises a fully fitted kitchen and dining room, separate lounge and a shower/WC room. The large open plan kitchen/diner is very well equipped with separate dining and comfortable seating areas. The lounge is spacious and light and the large comfortable suite will seat 6/7. Cable Television, DVD player and a Mini CD player are provided for our guests use, with a selection of DVD’s and CD’s. French doors from both of these rooms open directly onto the pool terrace providing spectacular views.

The First floor comprises spacious master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a seaview balcony, double bedroom with seaview balcony, twin bedroom, separate shower room and landing area with comfortable seating and full length mirror.

The second floor comprises double bedroom, separate shower room, large open plan lounge with comfortable suite and fitted kitchen, seaview balcony and access to large roof terrace. The roof terrace has dining seating for 6. The second floor is essentially self-contained and could be used as a separate apartment when large families or adult couples share holidays together.

All bedrooms are provided with attractive wrought iron dressing areas comprising a large wall mirror, smoked glass dresser and stool.

All double bedrooms have sea facing balconies with Rattan safety-glass tables and chairs and all afforded with spectacular panoramic views over Kalkan Bay and across to Patara Beach.

All living area and bedrooms have air-conditioning. Sun black-out curtains are fitted throughout the villa and this helps to keep the property cool in the heat of the day. This is a big advantage. A hot and cold water dispenser is available with a large capacity water container.

The large infinity pool terrace is south facing and includes 8 wooden sun-beds with side tables, 4 and 6 seater dining tables, occasional table and 4 chairs, parasols with small attractive gardens and an outside shower. The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

The Lycian region is rich in history and the mountains and coastline are areas of outstanding beauty and fine beaches. Kalkan is situated on the on SW Mediterranean Turquoise coast between Fethiye and Kas in the heart of the Lycian Region. It nestles snugly between the foothills of the Taurus Mountains and the azure blue Mediterranean Sea below, affording stunning sea and mountain views.

There are some outstanding beaches nearby including Kaputas and Patara beaches which are amongst the most photographed in Turkey. Kaputas Beach nestles below a gorge and the beautiful sandy bay can be accessed down many steps or by boat. Patara Beach is just 15 minutes drive away and affords 17km of natural sandy beach. It has been voted one of the best un-spoilt beaches in the world and is a conservation area for the nesting grounds of the Caretta Turtle. Horse riders can combine a visit to Patara Beach with a ride along the waters edge and among the sand dunes and pines.

The nearby village of Bezirgan is located on a flat plain with the impressive backcloth of the mountains while a little further away the village of Islamar is renowned for its trout farms. Lunchtime is the ideal time to come and relax in the cool gardens and eat when the trout are at their best. The views over Kalkan are beautiful.

The Kalkan area

Kalkan has developed from a tiny fishing village into a sophisticated gastronomic resort but has retained its charm and character. The maze of cobbled streets, with their bougainvillea covered whitewashed facades, wind down towards the small port where luxury yachts are berthed alongside small fishing boats all bobbing gently together on the waves. During the heat of the day Kalkan is quiet and relaxed and you can take your time perusing through the wide range of shops and boutiques selling local goods, clothes, rugs and jewellery. The people of Kalkan are extremely friendly, welcoming and hospitable.

At night Kalkan comes alive and transforms into a relaxed and sophisticated centre. There are so many excellent waterside and roof-top restaurants, some with tasteful live music, offering quality local, regional or International cuisine that you are completely spoilt for choice. Later in the evening you can just stroll through the town or along the harbour front as most of the shops and restaurants are open until around midnight.

Kalkan has an excellent and varied choice of activities within the town itself, or nearby, including all forms of water sports, horse riding, canoeing, para-gliding, trekking and jeep safaris.

You can take advantage of the villa facilities and simply relax by the pool, take an organised coach or boat trip to some of the many interesting sites in the surrounding area or enjoy the beautiful azure water of Kalkan Bay. Kalkan has a small beach as well as a number of attractive beach clubs scattered around the bay. These have amenities, private bathing platforms and steps directly into the sea. Some make small charges and they can be accessed by free boat taxi services or by foot from the harbour.

The Watersports centre in the harbour gives you access to waterskiing, jet skiing, speed boat trips, wind surfing and dinghy sailing. Small boats or Gulets can also be hired. For Scuba Diving there are several dive companies in Kalkan and nearby Kas offering day trips, PADI open water courses and TRY dives.

There are also many areas of geographical or historical interest within easy driving distance and this makes Kalkan the perfect base for a wonderful holiday. It has something for everyone and the holiday can be as relaxing or active as you.

Fly to Dalaman Airport. Flights available all year round from 15 UK airports and many European and International airports to Dalaman. Web based operators include Monarch, EasyJet, Thomas Cook, Thomson,Fly Pegasus and Avro. Dalaman is a 1hr 40min drive, through the new mountain tunnel, from Kalkan.

Alternatively, fly to Antalya Airport with carriers such as BA if more convenient but this is a 3 hour drive from Kalkan.

Local buses are fairly regular and cheap to use and taxi services are always available around Kalkan.

This family owned 3 bedroom villa was new to the Kalkan rental market in 2009, and occupies a hillside position giving superb panoramic views of Kalkan and its bay. All of the villas 3 bedrooms have balconies so you can enjoy the views offered by the location of the property. Local shops and Kalkan’s bus station are less than 1 km away, and it is just a 15 minute stroll to the centre of Kalkan. If you choose to hire a car there is off road parking and a garage for you to use.Adjacent to the front door to the property there is a separate door which gives you access to the villa’s utility room, where the washing machine is located. Just inside the main door is a comfortable seating area with two large settees. Two of the three bedrooms are on the first floor of the property, with beautiful sea views. The first bedroom has a double bed, bedside table and wardrobe. The second bedroom has twin beds, bedside table and wardrobe. Both of the bedrooms are air conditioned. There is a bathroom with shower, basin and W.C located on this floor A marble spiral staircase leads you from the ground floor to the first floor.

Ground Floor

The villa has a large private swimming pool set within the sun terrace, and a garden which is full of a variety of Mediterranean shrubs and plants. Patio furniture, including loungers and parasols are provided. Tables and chairs also enable you to dine al fresco, perhaps enjoying a meal cooked on the barbeque provided for your use at the villa. The villa’s open plan lounge and dining area offers sea views, and has a comfortable seating group, a feature fireplace, satellite television and a DVD player. Internet connection is available at the property. There is air conditioning in the lounge and dining area. The dining area seats 6 people. Adjacent is this floor’s toilet with W.C. and basin. A modern American style kitchen is also on this floor, with cutlery, crockery and glassware for 6 people. This fitted kitchen has a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine together with a built in oven with a 4 hob stove top. An electric water heater in the kitchen ensures a constant supply of hot water. There are also plenty of utensils, pots and pans for whipping up culinary delights!

First Floor

Two of the three bedrooms are on the first floor of the property, with beautiful sea views. The first bedroom has a double bed, bedside table, wardrobe and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has twin beds, bedside table and wardrobe. Both of the bedrooms are air conditioned. The villa’s bathroom is located on this floor. There is a small balcony which is accessed by the French doors in the kitchen, where you can dine alfresco if you choose. With floor to ceiling windows throughout the open plan area, the villa is light and airy with stunning views across Kalkan Bay, Kalamar Bay, the Taurus Mountains and Kalkan itself. Another marble spiral staircase takes you up to the second floor.

Second Floor

The master bedroom is located on the second floor, again giving you superb sea views with floor to ceiling windows. This air conditioned room has a double bed and desk. The bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom, and in the lobby area next to the bathroom there are large built in wardrobes. At the end of the corridor is a door that leads you to a balcony and a spiral staircase that leads you to the roof terrace. The villa is cleaned on a weekly basis, with bed linen and towels for 8 people supplied.

Villa Guzel Kalkan

Villa Guzel is a spacious villa suitable for a large family or more than one family to enjoy a relaxing holiday. There are 5 large bedrooms all with air conditioning and also a large Turkish room on the top floor authentically furnished in the Ottoman style which can be used as a ‘chill out ‘ room or an extra bedroom. The villa has a spacious living area with plenty of facilities for relaxing. There are balconies to all the bedrooms and a spacious roof terrace with breathtaking views of the turquoise sea. The villa is set in a quiet area of Kalkan only a short walk from the town centre and is ideally situated for visiting Kalkan ‘s weekly market for a bit of bargain hunting. The local supermarkets are a 5 minute walk away and the old town and harbour are a 10-15 minute stroll. The villa luxuriates in its own garden with a large swimming pool on an extensive terrace with a shady timber and cotton pergola if a break from the sun is required when it’s getting too hot!

Coast/Beach
Kalkan’s stone beach is about a five minute by walking. There are wonderful sandy beaches nearby. Patara beach has 7 miles of golden sands and is considered by The Sunday Times as amongst the top six in the world. Patara is about a 15 minute drive away – buses leave for Patara every 30 minutes. Kaputas beach is a 10 minute drive in the opposite direction, on the road to Kas, which is well worth a visit.

Travel
Dalaman is the nearest airport now open all year round. It is approximately 1.5 hours drive. There are direct flights from many UK airports, including direct flights with easyJet from Gatwick. Antalya airport is 2.5 – 3 hour drive. Transfers by private taxi, minibus or car hire can be arranged with prior notice.

Distances
Surrounded by many places of interest from 10 to 30 minutes drive.Places to visit within easy reach by car are the Lycian Way, Saklikent Gorge, Kekova sunken city, Tlos, Xanthos, Letoon and the magnificent beach of Patara. It is possible to experience a Hamam or other relaxing spa treatments within a short walk of the villa.

A hire car is not essential but taxis will come in three minutes if needed. most of the supermarkets offer a home delivery service. Ali Baba’s restaurant, also do a take away service. The nearest bank, doctors, pharmacy, dentist are all with in 5 mins At the southwest corner of the Turkish coast (Turquoise Coast) lies one of the most beautiful and unspoiled areas of the Mediterranean. Kalkan was once occupied by the Greek Ottomans and their legacy has left an old town full of character. It has steep cobbled streets that wind down towards the harbour and the locals are exceptionally friendly.

During the day Kalkan is almost disarmingly laid-back, as visitors choose to enjoy the crystal clear waters lapping the Lycian coast. The public beach next to Kalkan’s harbour was recently extended and is more than adequate for swimming and sunbathing. However you choose to spend your days, no-one can resist being back in Kalkan in the evening, for the variety and quality of eating places on offer is quite astonishing for such a compact town. There are little restaurants that are so low key that many visitors never notice them; just the place to enjoy delicious and genuine local cooking. Magical surroundings, a dash of relaxed sophistication and a seemingly limitless variety of places to explore make Kalkan irresistible.

The restaurants in Kalkan offer an exceptionally high standard of food and service ,many restaurants have romantic roof terraces looking out over Kalkan. Eating out is excellent value and the Turkish wines are surprisingly good. The pretty cobbled streets of the old town are an Aladdin’s cave with an abundance of shops selling clothes, jewellery, handbags, gifts, etc. There is also a weekly market on a Thursday. There are a number of bars that stay open through the small hours and play music but no loud nightclubs.

Ahh, the lovely Yaka Park. No day trip from Kalkan to Tlos is complete without a visit to Yaka Park Restaurants. Water falling naturally from the mountains is routed and pumped all through the restaurant making it lovely and cool. There’s no shortage of fresh spring water in the Xanthos region of Turkey and when you go to Yaka Park, all this has been channelled around the area so that there are streams and waterfalls and all you can hear is the sound of the force of gushing water. It’s especially good when you come up in the mid-summer heat, enter the restaurant and the temperature drops. You’re high up above the Xanthos Valley, the trees are shading you and you can feel the coolness from the force of the icy cold water.

Trout swim through the bar and enjoy being tickled
Because this area is so beautiful and remote, it has become jeep safari country and I know some of the companies do use Yaka Park as a stopping off point. If you want to go when it’s really peaceful, then early and late season might be the best times to go. Yaka Park used to have a trout farm as well. This seems to come and go. They do still keep some pretty huge trout in one of the pool areas and they also have baby trout swimming through the spring water stream that runs through the middle of the bar.

Kekova Sunken City Boat Trip

This fascinating day trip from Kalkan allows you to visit and relive ancient history at Demre, Myra and Kekova while relaxing and sunbathing on this yacht tour to sunken islands, charming towns and turquoise waters.

Along the northern shore, the forces of nature have caused some of the ancient houses to be totally submerged, while others are scattered along the coastline. We begin this tour by traveling to present-day town Demre where you will find the finest examples of Lycian funerary architecture at Myra. Visit the Church of St. Nicholas, who was the patron saint of children, or more commonly known as Santa Claus.

After enjoying lunch, board a yacht and take a cruise into the turquoise sea to the beautiful island of Kekova. Here you will discover the underwater ruins of the sunken city of Simena and the famous Lycian necropolis. Bring a towel and your bathing suit if you want to take the opportunity to swim and snorkel.
